With around 75,000 passengers expected between December 20 and New Year's Day, Shannon Airport in Ireland's south-west is expecting its busiest Christmas in three years.
A departure and layover point for flights to the US, Shannon has slowly been regaining traffic levels last seen in 2019, before the imposition of pandemic-related curbs.
Chief executive Mary Considine said the airport has 32 destinations lined up for 2023 and congratulated colleagues for “fantastic work in securing a number of new routes." The destinations include Porto, Naples, Bezier, Newcastle and Liverpool, with the flights to be operated by Ryanair, as well a new Shannon-Chicago route with United Airlines.
