Staff shortages and an increase in maintenance reports have caused flight cancelations to spike at American Airlines. The airline plans to cut its schedule for the rest of September and October by 1 to 2%. According to latest data, American cancelled more flights on Sunday and Monday than any other airline.
American canceled 57 flights as of late afternoon Monday, more than the next nine airlines combined, according to FlightAware.com, a flight-tracking service. Another company, FlightStats Inc., said American canceled 95 flights, or about 5 percent of its schedule.
In July, the most recent month for which government figures are available, American canceled 1.2 percent of its flights.
