Scandinavian Airlines is planning to seek compensation for its disruptions due to air traffic control (ATC) services during pandemic at Copenhagen Airport. Naviair, the ATC operator in Denmark has to furlough its 46 air traffic controllers during pandemic. When the air traffic resumed, its remaining staff had to work overtime and increase shift times to keep up with travel demand from airlines
This lack of controllers led to costly disruptions at Copenhagen leading to disruption of airline operations.
Anko van der Werff, Chief Executive, SAS said: “Over the past couple of months, air traffic control capacity issues in Copenhagen have caused considerable problems for airlines, airports and, not the least, our passengers. We will seek compensation for the irregularity costs caused by the situation.”
The ATC shortages at Copenhagen airport have likely cost the Scandinavian airline millions of dollars in lost revenue due to missed slots and delayed flights. If the claim goes through, Navair is looking at a massive compensation package.
