SAS launches daily Copenhagen–Istanbul service

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has launched a new daily direct service between Copenhagen and iGA Istanbul Airport, marking more connectivity between Scandinavia and Turkey.

The route, which began on 27 March, will be operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats. The new service is intended to respond to growing travel demand while offering increased options for both business and leisure passengers.

The launch forms part of iGA Istanbul Airport’s broader strategy to expand its airline partnerships and destination network. The airport, which serves more than 340 destinations through over 100 airline partnerships, is seeking to strengthen its position as a global hub linking regions and markets.

Server Aydın, chief commercial officer at iGA Istanbul Airport, said the addition of SAS marked “an important milestone” in the airport’s growth strategy and would enhance economic and cultural links between Türkiye and the Nordic region.

SAS also highlighted the role of the new route in strengthening its network. Henrik Winell, vice president of network at the airline, said the Copenhagen–Istanbul service would reinforce connections between Scandinavia and Turkey while supporting the carrier’s hub operations in Copenhagen.

The new flights are expected to contribute to increased tourism and trade between the two regions, while further supporting Istanbul’s role as a hub connecting continents.

iGA Istanbul Airport said it would continue to develop new routes and partnerships as part of its strategy to expand its global reach.
