SalamAir suspends multiple routes amid regional airspace closures

Oman’s low-cost carrier, SalamAir, has announced the temporary suspension of several routes due to airspace closures related to the conflict in the Middle East.

Flights to and from Iran have been suspended until 31 August 2026, while services to and from Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar and Sharjah are suspended until 30 May 2026, the airline said in an update on 1 April.

SalamAir added that some other scheduled flights may also be subject to changes as it continues to monitor the situation.

The airline said the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew remain its highest priority and that it will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

The disruption comes as the Omani government completes its acquisition of SalamAir, according to Gulf News.

Oman authorities said both SalamAir and Oman Air will continue to operate as independent brands, maintaining their operational identity, fleets and services.

Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Oman’s Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the strategy aims to reduce overlap between the two airlines’ destination networks, optimise fleet utilisation and expand connectivity within Oman and the wider region. He added that the move is expected to improve operational efficiency and strengthen the financial position of both airlines and related ground service companies.

The carrier began operations in 2017 and operates a fleet of 15 Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. The airline serves more than 40 destinations across over 15 countries, including four domestic routes within Oman.
