New airline Salam Air is considering where to set up its home base in Oman, Muscat or secondary airport, Salalah International Airport. Oman Airports Management Company would like them to consider the latter as it has recently replaced its old terminal building with a 2 million-passenger (capacity) terminal.
Salam Air intends to start operations by early 2017 with medium and short-haul flights using 737s.
