Safran Aircraft Engines has finalised the acquisition of engine parts repair company Component Repair Technologies (CRT) on January 23, 2025.
The acquisition is part of Safran's €1bn investment plan to expand its capacity and workforce for its global maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) network. The company said this is to meet the “growing demand for support” for the CFM56 and LEAP engines currently in service globally, which the company says totals around 32,000 engines.
“This major acquisition perfectly reflects our industrial strategy of providing a world-class repair facility on each continent located as close as possible to needs in order to best serve our airline customers, and at the same time reduce our carbon footprint from these activities,” said Safran Aircraft Engines CEO Jean-Paul Alary.
CRT has over 450 employees. The company is specialised in the repair of large parts, such as cases and rotating parts, for the CFM56, LEAP, and large turbofan engines.
CRT will perform engine parts repair activities to support shop visits on behalf of Safran for airlines with service contracts, as well as for other engine makers and third-party companies in the MRO market.
The acquisition was first announced in September last year.
