SACKED QANTAS FLIGHT ATTENDANT TO SUE AIRLINE

A flight attendant is considering taking legal action for being sacked after suggesting staff on board the Qantas A380 flight when the engines exploded over Indonesia last month should get counselling. Jessie Holgersson, who was on her second training trip when the engine exploded, claims her contract was terminated after she objected to waiting more than 24 hours for psychological debriefing following the incident.

It was a terrifying and stressful experience, she said to Australian ABC radio. "Basically, I was looking out my window and I saw flame coming out from the engine…Afterwards, we were told that it was a fairly normal occurrence and these things can happen and, you know, not to worry about it too much."

Holgersson claims she performed well under pressure but said she was fired after complaining staff were not offered counselling until the next day. The claim is denied by Qantas, who said that “all cabin crew including any in training were provided with immediate and appropriate support.
