S7 737 sinks into Moscow DME tarmac

An S7 Airlines B737 that was due to operate from Moscow to Novosibirsk, was stuck at Moscow's Domodedovo airport for nearly six hours after its undercarriage sank into melting tarmac on the airport’s taxiway.

Local media and eyewitnesses reported the aircraft’s wheels sank up to 15cm into the tarmac. The temperature at the airport was 32°C.

Domodedovo officials stated that the occurrence did not affect the airport's routine. Airport press officer Daria Korshunova said: "Abnormally high temperatures have led to a slight softening of the pavement's surface. The passengers were let out of the plane and provided with food and drink. Soon they will be sent to their destination on a different aircraft.
