Ryanair said it has the backing of over 700,000 of the "fed-up passengers of Europe", who have signed its petition calling on the EU Commission "to take immediate action" to protect overflights of France.
The Dublin-based said it was forced to cancel over 200 flights in the run up to the May 1 holiday due to the strikes, which have taken place on 52 days in 2023.
"Despite only launching just 6 weeks ago, over 700,000 passengers have signed Ryanair’s “Protect Passengers: Keep EU Skies Open” petition calling on the EU Commission to take immediate action and protect European citizen’s Freedom of Movement and overflights during French ATC strikes", the airline said, slamming the Commission for what it said was a failure to address the disruptions caused by the strikes.
At time of writing the petition had almost 709,000 signatures. Ryanair said it wants one million people to put their names to the document, which can be accessed on the internet.
