Ryanair’s Spanish staff, represented by the USO and SITCPLA unions, will be striking weekly from August 8 until January 7, 2023. The strikes will take place every Monday to Thursday during the period.

The unions demand that Ryanair: comply with basic labour rights in Spain by introducing 22 days of annual leave plus 14 days of statutory holiday; reinstate 11 workers who were dismissed in June and July for supporting the strikes; and to stop sanctions against some 100 workers who previously went on strike.

Ryanair’s Spanish staff walked out from July 18 to 21, and from July 25 to 28. They were also joined by their colleagues elsewhere in Europe as part of a series of coordinated strikes between June 24 and July 2.

In a joint statement, the unions said that since strikes in 2018, Ryanair has made few improvements to working conditions, despite several attempts at mediation. As a result, they have collectively agreed on strike action.

Meanwhile, easyJet pilots in Spain – represented by Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (SEPLA) – are planning a nine day strike in August in a dispute over pay and working conditions.

Three 72 hour strikes are planned to take place from 12 to 14, 19 to 21 and 27 to 29 August.

The union is also asking easyJet to provide its pilots with new multi-year contracts.

“This is the last possible recourse, as all attempts by the pilots’ representatives to reach an agreement have failed,” SEPLA said.
