RYANAIR PLANS TO PULL OUT OF DTV AIRPORT IN PROTEST OVER NEW CHARGES

Ryanair is proposing to withdraw its service from Durham Tees Valley Airport’s (DTV) in protest over controversial new charges.

From yesterday, passengers were required to pay a £6 facility fee owners Vancouver Airport Services claim will help save the lossmaking airport from closure. Similar schemes have already been introduced at a number of UK regional airports, including Blackpool, Newquay and Norwich.

The fee is paid by passengers in payment machines at the airport. The airport expects to generate about £500,000 per year.
