Michael O’Leary, chief executive of Ryanair, has commented that the airline could offer low-cost, transatlantic flights within the next five to 10 years. Ryanair has had a business plan to roll out transatlantic low fare services for a while but the lack of availability for long-haul will ensure this doesn’t come to fruition for at least five years, says O’Leary.
“Unless we can secure a fleet of low-cost aircraft, frankly, the business doesn't get off the ground,” he said.
In the past he has indicated that one-way transatlantic fares could start at as little as €10 but passengers would pay for ancillary items from meals to luggage. He has also indicated that business class seats would be made available.
