Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will operate over 180 routes and 3,000 flights from London's Stansted, Gatwick and Luton airports during summer 2023, according to a January 17 announcement
The schedule includes six new routes to Asturias, Belfast, Cornwall, Edinburgh, Klagenfurt and Leipzig, the carrier said, and would entail "increased frequencies on 30+ sunshine routes" such as Malaga and Mallorca.
The carrier is to base 57 aircraft at the three airports, it said, a commitment it claimed underpins 1,600 jobs around the UK capital.
“Ryanair is pleased to bring even more choice to London citizens and visitors for Summer ‘23. Our schedule has grown 10% on last Summer, with 3,000 weekly flights scheduled across 180+ routes, incl. 6 new sunshine destinations and increased frequencies on 30+ other popular routes like Berlin, Malaga, Mallorca, Nantes and Palma," said chief executive Michael O'Leary.
However, O'Leary said the recent UK government move to halve air passenger duty for domestic flights did not go far enough.
"If we are to continue to grow and drive traffic and tourism recovery for the UK, Prime Minister Sunak should immediately scrap APD for all travel and provide incentives for airlines like Ryanair to stimulate growth and recovery for the UK, including London," O'Leary said.
