Codacons, the Italian competition regulators, has fined Ryanair €400,000 for a lack of transparency in the sale of tickets online by credit card or debit card.
President of Codacons, Carlo Rienzi, described the card fees added onto the price of a ticket at the end of the reservation period as misleading. "These fees amounted to €5/6 per passenger, but they can cost as much as € 8 per ticket,” he says. “It is a useless, heavy tax and harmful to consumers –which is not always indicated in a fair and transparent manner.”
Codacons stated that the fine is only the first step and the ultimate goal is the elimination of any fees for online ticket purchases.
