RwandAir is focussing on routes in eastern and southern Africa, according to a report in The New Times.
The Rwanda flag carrier's CEO Yvonne Makolo told an aviation convention in Kigali that the company will continue expanding its network by connecting to less-connected destinations. This will include the launch of a direct flight to Mombasa and Zanzibar.
The move was driven by Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) closing its airspace to all aircraft from Kigali.
According to the report, Makolo said: “It's very unfortunate that politics enters aviation, but we're working through that.”
Zawya reported that the airline had abandoned three of its west African routes due to the cost of operating them after the DRC ban.
