RwandAir has outlined plans to double its passenger numbers to over 2.1 million by 2029 following the delivery of two leased Boeing 737NG in August.
Speaking to The New Times, RwandAir Chief Commercial Officer Fouad Caunhye confirmed the carriers intention to take on a mix of regional, narrowbody, and widebody aircraft over the next four years, increasing its fleet to 21 aircraft.
The airline said the first of the two 737NGs delivered has already begun operations, boosting the African carrier's capacity. A third aircraft is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.
“Together with the arrival of these new aircraft, the strengthened fleet will enable RwandAir to improve reliability, strengthen our schedules, and deliver an even better travel experience to all our passengers,” said RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo.
As of August 2025, RwandAir operates three A330s, eight 737-800, two Bombardier CRJ-900, and two De Havilland Canada DHC-8. Planned acquisitions will see the carrier increase capacity and align with its existing fleet types. The carrier’s latest deliveries, two current generation 737-800, were delivered in August by Saudi lessor AviLease, and are set to support the carrier’s services across Africa and the Middle East.
The expansion follows RwandAir’s recently announced route launch, set to connect London and Zanzibar via Kigali. Flights are scheduled to begin on November 30, 2025,
