Royal Jordanian Airlines Q3 profits up

Royal Jordanian Airlines has posted profits of $27.63 million (JD19.6 million), before provision of JD6 million loss on sale of fixed asset, during the first nine months of the year, compared to JD25.5 million in the same period of 2009. Gross profits reached JD65.5 million, against JD73.3 million in 2009.

Royal Jordanian doard of directors engineer Nasser Lozi said the airline registered profits despite the challenges from sharp competition and high fuel prices compared to last year. This success Lozi credited to the airline’s measures to increase productivity, control costs and cut the operational expenditures without affecting the level of air and ground services offered passengers.

The number of passengers carried grew by 15%, from 2 million passengers in the first nine months of 2009 to 2.3 million this year. The number of flights also increased by 9%. Cargo uplifted also increased by 33%; freighters carried more than 44,000 tons in the first nine months of this year compared to 33,000 tons last year.
