Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is preparing tenders for the acquisition for 10 jets with Boeing and Embraer, TelQuel reports, citing sources.
As per the report, RAM has acquired four new Boeing 787s (two 787-8 and two 787-9) in addition to four 737 MAX 8. The agreement with Embraer involves two E190s, but the specification is not mentioned as to whether it is E1 or E2 family aircraft. However, the report states that the aircraft will be configured in 96 seats.
Besides the above deal, the RAM is also in talks with Boeing for a second deal involving seven 737 MAX 8s and three Dreamliners, sources claims.
Just recently the airline outlined its fleet expansion plan that aims at quadrupling its fleet by 2038. As of now, the airline operated 50 aircraft, most of which are 737-800s (28 planes), in addition to two MAX 8s, six ATR 72s, five 787-8s, four 787-9s and four E190s.
Deliveries of the aircraft are expected to take place between September 2023 and January 2024.
Depending on a return to financial stability (first profits expected from 2027), all the aircraft would be acquired through finance leases, offering RAM the possibility of becoming the owner at the end of the contract, thanks to the purchase option.
