Relaxed pandemic norms to aid Air Canada’s recovery from pandemic

Leaving the woes of the pandemic behind, the world is slowly opening up by relaxing the pandemic norms like mandatory Antigen tests, 3-days to a week-long quarantine measure, the mandatory wearing of masks, etc. Just as Asian countries like Japan and Hong-Kong take a step forward in relaxing the restrictions, the Government of Canada has also taken a decision to lift the remaining COVID-19 restrictions like wearing masks on aircraft, testing and quarantine, and the compulsory use of ArriveCan beginning October 1, 2022.

Welcoming this decision of the government, Craig Landry, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at Air Canada, said: “Air Canada welcomes the removal of these restrictions, acknowledging that air travel is safe and that the measures were not justified by science. We believe it will greatly facilitate travel, help to continue stabilising the country's air transport sector, and support Canada's economy. Customers and crew will still have the option to wear masks and we also encourage customers to monitor their own health to be sure they feel well and fit to travel.”

The relaxed measures announced today are expected to advance Air Canada's ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
