Qatar looks to replace 737-10s with 737-8s from orderbook, Bloomberg reports

Qatar Airways is reportedly looking to remove 737-10 aircraft from its orderbook with the aircraft no longer suitable for its fleet requirements, according to a Bloomberg report on December 13, 2024. The outlet cited people familiar with the matter.

Qatar may switch to smaller 737-8s, according to the report, and may provide them its partners such as RwandAir and Virgin Australia - airlines that currently use these models.

A spokesperson for the airline said it had “nothing further to add to what is already reported" when asked to confirm the information.

The carrier had ordered 25 of the model in July 2022, along with signing an agreement with CFM International for installed and spare LEAP-1B engines to power the aircraft. The order came at the time as it was in dispute with Airbus surrounding the surface degradation of the A350 aircraft and its grounding. This led to Qatar cancelling its purchase agreement for 50 A321 jets as well outstanding A350s from its orderbook.

Qatar and Airbus reached a settlement out of court in early 2023.
