QANTAS TO FAST TRACK ROLLS-ROYCE RB211 ENGINE MODIFICATIONS

Qantas is planning to speed up modifications of Rolls-Royce RB211 engines powering its Boeing 747-400 fleet to solve the problem caused by cracked high-pressure compressor blades, which Rolls-Royce acknowledged as a problem, several years ago. The Australian airline has already modified a quarter of its fleet but it is aiming to fast-track modifications for the remainder while also looking at altering the way it operates its 747s. Qantas has been suffering from a high failure rate in this area unlike other airlines that operate the same aircraft type.
