Qantas takes delivery of first A321XLR

Qantas Airways has taken delivery of its first A321XLR, Airbus shared on June 30, 2025. The aircraft was delivered from the OEM's assembly line in Finkenwerder, Hamburg.

The aircraft — powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines — is flying from the facility to Sydney with one crew rest stop in Bangkok.

The Qantas A321XLR features a two class layout with 20 seats in business and 177 in the main cabin. Qantas will initially operate the A321XLR on domestic services across Australia, with potential to open future new services on secondary routes to Asia.

The airline has ordered a total of 40 A321XLR jets. The XLRs will gradually replace the airline's 737s. The airline said in late November that its first XLR jet — coined the ‘Great Ocean Road’ — was expected to be delivered in April this year.
