Qantas has finalized a codeshare deal with Taiwan's China Airlines in its latest move to extend its virtual network presence in Asia.
The Australian flag carrier's customers will now be able to earn frequent flyer points on direct services from Sydney and Brisbane to Taipei, with up to 10 flights per week available during peak seasons.
The deal follows earlier codesharing agreements with Asian partners including China Southern, China Eastern, Bangkok Airways and Japan Airlines. Alliance partner Emirates also offers codeshares on its flights from Australia to Asia.
Qantas executive manager international sales Stephen Thompson said the airline had experienced growth in the number of customers travelling to Taipei via Singapore and Hong Kong.
"By providing greater access to Taiwan with a direct codeshare service and more opportunities to earn frequent flyer points, we're confident our customers will enjoy this new route to Taipei," Thompson said.
"This new codeshare also strengthens our position in the region, and complements existing commercial relationships with three of the biggest carriers in Greater China – China Eastern, China Southern, and through Oneworld, Cathay Pacific".
The new codeshare services will be available for booking from September 1st, for travel from October 15th, subject to final regulatory approval.
