Qantas reports a positive trend in flight operations and airport performance

Qantas has reported a positive trend in the overall flight operations in August 2022 with an on-time performance showing a steady rise from 52% in July 2022 to 67% in August and further rising to 71% from 1-14 September 2022.

Flight cancellations also show a steep decline to 2% from almost 7.5 in July 2022. Incidents of baggage mishandling have dropped to six per 1000 passengers overall nearing pre-pandemic levels. Qantas also reported an increase in the average number of bags being checked in per passenger compared to pre-COVID, reflecting the strong rebound in leisure travel.

Qantas has taken certain corrective measures in the last few days to lessen passenger hassle due to flight cancellations and baggage handling mishaps. Qantas has recruited over 1500 personnel in various departments like cabin crew, airport customer service staff, engineers, and others. Besides a reduction in the total number of domestic flights has increased the availability of staff on standby

With baggage services normalising, customers are encouraged to check in bags to stay within their carry-on baggage allowances and avoid boarding delays that can be caused by overhead baggage.

With the approaching school holidays, long weekends, and football finals, Qantas’ performance will be put to test especially during peak hours.
