Pratt & Whitney to invest $206 million in Georgia business

Pratt & Whitney plans to invest $206 million to expand the capabilities of its business in Columbus, Georgia, which supports commercial and military engine programs. This investment is expected to generate 400 jobs by the end of 2028, and Pratt & Whitney will work in partnership with Georgia QuickStart to train and recruit these new employees. The funds will also be used for new machinery, equipment and an expansion of the Columbus Engine Centre.

“From the flights that go through the world's most utilized airport to the engines in the very airplanes, the Peach State is crucial to the movement of goods and products. Pratt & Whitney's decision to expand will only further that reputation,” said Georgia’s governor, Brian Kemp.

The Pratt & Whitney Columbus business is about 90 miles south of Atlanta. It is made up of the Columbus Engine Centre and the Columbus Forge, which both operate on one campus. The Engine Centre maintains GTF engines for the Embraer E-Jets E2, Airbus A220 and Airbus A320neo aircraft families, along with F117 and F100 engines. Columbus Forge produces compressor airfoils and nickel and titanium forgings, which are machined into critical rotating parts for Pratt & Whitney’s commercial and military engines – including the GTF, as well as the F135 engine, powering the F-35 Lightning II fighter.

"Economic vitality for our residents and area businesses has been and remains among my top priorities," said Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson. "This announcement of new jobs and new investment is an example of the economic growth that Columbus is poised to capture and we appreciate Pratt & Whitney, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and the Development Authority of Columbus for their efforts to make this a reality."
