Play appoints new chief executive officer
Fly Play has appointed Einar Örn Ólafsson as the company’s new CEO, following the resignation of outgoing chief executive officer Birgir Jónsson. Einar Örn Ólafsson will step into his new role from his previous position as chairman of the board. “After a great ramp-up phrase these last few years under Bigir’s strong leadership, the company is now at a turning point,” he explained, adding: “As the company’s largest shareholder, I’d like to see my investment through”. “In a relatively short period of time, we have created a powerful Icelandic low-cost airline with outstanding products, services and a bright future,” commented Jónsson. “A competitive landscape in the aviation industry will result in lower fares, a diverse selection of destinations and valuable foreign tourists, which is especially important for an island like us”. Bigir will remain as an advisor for Play for the next few months.
