PLAY: 65% increase in passenger numbers in March 2023
Icelandic airline PLAY has recorded its ‘best load factor in a winter month’ (88.1%) in the carrier’s history, with 142,918 passengers carried in March 2024. This represented a 65% increase from the same month a year prior. PLAY CEO Einar Örn Ólaffson described March’s load figures as “acceptable,” adding that the early Easter period’s rise in bookings was “more than balancing out the negative impact of the seismic activities towards the end of 2023”. He added: “The number of passengers travelling with us to Iceland and connecting passengers shows the tremendous work that has been done to increase our awareness in our foreign markets where we strive to offer competitive prices”. Of PLAY’s March passengers, 25.6% were travelling from Iceland, 36% flying to Iceland ad 38.4% were connecting passengers. The airline also boasted an on-time performance of 94% which it describes as ‘among the best on-time performances in the airline industry’.
