Jean-Marc Pajot, CEO of Fly Congo, said yesterday that they were destroying aircraft from Hewa Bora Airways to restore the confidence of the Congolese people in airlines. Pajot said they will destroy five Boeing-727s and one of another type of aircraft over two to three months. Hewa Bora had a history of fatal crashes. In July, a Hewa Bora plane crashed in a thunderstorm as it was attempting to land at Kisangani airport in eastern Congo, killing 85 people. Pajot said that Fly Congo has also started compensating the families of the victims from that crash. He says they will each receive $87,500. It is unlikely that they are “destroying” the aircraft rather parting out to you and me.
