American Airlines pilots have voted to back a potential strike, according to the Allied Pilots Association (APA).
The May 1 ballot saw 96% of American’s pilots participate, with 99% endorsing a strike, which would in turn need the approval of the National Mediation Board to proceed legally.
“Today marks a proud milestone in our pilot group’s unity and resolve and an important step on our path to securing the contract we have earned and deserve — one that prevents management from operating at a discount to our competitors and includes our ‘must have’ quality-of-life priorities,” the APA said.
The carrier has said it was willing to increase pay to match offers made by rival airlines to their pilots, including the 34% raise agreed by Delta Air Lines recently.
