Pilot strike threatens to ground half Air France-KLM flights

Air France-KLM may cancel up to half of its scheduled flights today because of a dispute with pilots.

Air France has asked passengers to check the status of their flights before they leave for the airport this morning. The airline has stated that it expects to operate 48% of its flights today.

Some 60% of Air France pilots are striking today in action that will last all week. The pilots union wants to ensure that the 250 new pilots the group aims to hire for its budget carrier over the next five years will be employed under the same contract as pilots flying under the main Air France brand.

The cancellations are expected to cost the airline as much as €15 million in extra costs and lost revenue.
