RAF fighter planes intercepted a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight and escorted it to Stansted Airport. The Ministry of Defence deployed two Typhoon fighter jets to intercept flight PK757 following an incident, which was quickly dismissed as unrelated to terrorism or a hijacking. One passenger on board the flight was wanted by police and was due to be arrested at Heathrow before the flight was diverted to Stansted.
The airline said security fears were raised after a "vague anonymous phone call" made to authorities before the plane was due to land at Heathrow.
A spokesman said: "UK authorities received some vague security threat through an anonymous phone call regarding PIA's Lahore-Heathrow flight PK757 before its landing at Heathrow, after which, as per their standard procedures the aircraft was diverted to Stansted airport.
All passengers were safe and were provided with surface transport to London.
