PENSION DISPUTE BETWEEN CAW AND AIR CANADA GRANTED AN EXTENSION

The federal arbitrator appointed to the pension dispute between Air Canada and the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) has been granted an extension.

The CAW ended to a three-day strike at Air Canada in June after reaching a new labour agreement but was unable to agree on management’s efforts to move new hires into a defined contribution pension plan rather than the existing defined benefit program. The matter was put out for arbitration and a decision was expected by Aug. 19. But this has now been extended to the end of the month or shortly after Labour Day.
