Data published by Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) show US travel agency air ticket sales of $8.4bn in February 2023, a 54% increase on the same month in 2022 and the second-highest post-Covid sales after May 2022.
"Total passenger trips settled by ARC in February 2023 increased 13% year over year to 22.3 million. International trips increased 29% while domestic trips increased 4% over the same period", the company said in a statement, giving the average domestic return fare as $571, a 23% increase on February 2022 and up 8% month-on-month.
But sales were "flat", when analysed month-on-month, according to ARC, with the number of trips down 7%.
“Despite flat sales and decreases in passenger trips month over month, overall demand remains stronger than what we saw last year with international travel showing continued strength,” said Steve Solomon, chief commercial officer at ARC.
