A computer outage at United Airlines caused 580 flights to be delayed and nine cancellations. A piece of computer equipment failed to communicate correctly, and its back-up system also failed which resulted in the carrier’s website shutting down for more than two hours and prevented workers from boarding passengers on time.
Long lines were reported at its hubs in Newark (New Jersey), San Francisco, Houston, and Chicago.
United Continental Holdings is investigating what caused the problem.
