OFFICIAL FIGURES SHOW TRAFFIC UP FOR US AIRLINES IN SEPTEMBER

According to official figures from the US Department of Transport’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics, US airlines carried 57.3 million passengers in September, a 5% rise over last year. This figure represents the largest monthly increase in three years. The rise is also 6.6% higher than the traffic numbers posted for the month of September in 2009.

US airlines carried 4.3% more domestic passengers in September and 9.4% more international passengers than in September 2009. Aircraft were fuller than in any other September on record.

Delta Air Lines was the main beneficiary of increase passenger demand, as it carried more total passengers than any other US airline. However, Southwest Airlines carried the most passengers domestically.
