Norwegian Group has posted positive results for its April traffic numbers with a 13% year-on-year (YoY) increase at a total of 2.2 million passengers. Norwegian had 1.9 million passengers for the month, while Wideroe had 315,495.
""April marked a significant ramp up in capacity and we had on average 14 more aircraft in operation compared to the same month last year,"" said Norwegian CEO Geir Karlsen.
Norwegian's capacity was up 18% YoY to 3.2bn available seat kilometres (ASKs), with its revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) up 14% to 2.5bn. Its load factor for April was down three percentage points to 80.3, with the company stating that this was partly due to the earlier Easter holiday this year.
In addition, Norwegian operated with a regularity rate of 98.8%. It said 51% of its cancelled flights took place on April 25, with both air traffic control (ATC) strikes in Europe and the closure of airspace in Norway having large impacts on the airline's operations.
Wideroe's ASKs were up 13% to 177 million and its RPKs was 113 million. Its load factor was up six percentage points to 64.1%.
