Air Koryo, North Korea’s state-owned flag carrier, has appointed an online-based ticket agent for the first time. The international online travel agency, Destina, will offer never-before-sold routes from the North Korean capital Pyongyang, to Shenyang in China; and from Pyongyang to Vladivostok in the Russian Far East.
Destinia will also offer online booking of the Pyongyang-Beijing route that was previously sold exclusively by Air China.
Destinia was also the first online travel agency to offer travel packages from Spain to North Korea, starting in summer 2013.
Air Koryo operates a fleet of obsolete ex-Soviet era airliners including Tu-134s and Il-62s, and travelling to the country involves extremely strict visa requirements, for instance photographers and journalists are not permitted to enter the country, there is no access to the Internet in North Korea, and tourists are always accompanied by at least two guides.
