Nordic Aviation in carbon offset exploration deal with GE Aerospace

Dublin-based lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) has agreed a memorandum of understanding with GE Aerospace "to explore a CORSIA-compliant carbon offset programme".

The deal is to allow NAC offset carbon associated with its ferrying of aircraft and its direct employee long-haul business travel, and, the company said, is a signal of its "commitment to driving a more sustainable business model".

Brian Power, who heads NAC's fleet operations, said the lessor is "pleased to work with GE Aerospace on our first program to offset carbon generated from our direct leasing operations.”

“GE Aerospace looks to support its customers in helping meet their goals to be more sustainable and we are pleased to work with NAC to test this pilot programme," said Cristina Seda-Hoelle, general manager of regional business aviation engines and services.

Some 115 states have signed up to CORSIA, or the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, though the system has been dismissed by some in the European Union (EU) as insufficiently rigorous. In turn, some European short-haul airlines have criticised EU Commission proposals for a carbon offsetting system as too stringent and potentially handing a competitive advantage to long-haul or non-European airlines operating under the CORSIA umbrella.
