New Kansas terminal set to open

A new $1.5bn terminal at Kansas City International is to open on February 28, the facility's operator has confirmed.

The building is the biggest infrastructure project in the city's history, according to the Kansas City Aviation Department, which said the work was finished "on time and on budget".

The first flight out of the new terminal will take off for Chicago Midway at 5am on the 28th, operated by Southwest Airlines. The first arrival, a Southwest flight from Chicago, will touch down two hours and 40 minutes later.

The terminal was developed by the City of Kansas City, Edgemoor Infrastructure and Real Estate, joint venture Clark | Weitz | Clarkson and the Kansas City Aviation Department, which owns and operates the airport.

Tech business CLEAR said in a separate statement that its identity verification technology would launch at the airport the same day.
