Tony Wood has been appointed President – Aerospace at Rolls-Royce following the shock resignation of Mark King. Wood will take up his new role on May 13, while king will depart the company by the end of June.
Wood, who is presently President - Marine, has worked for Rolls-Royce for 12 years and has experience in both the Civil Aerospace and Defence Aerospace businesses.
King steps down after only four months in the job after working at Rolls since 1986. No reason has been given for his resignation.
In an interim statement, Rolls-Royce has confirmed that trading in the first quarter of its financial year has been "consistent with our expectations".
The engine manufacturer, which will hold its annual general meeting on Thursday, says that since its preliminary 2012 results in February, it has “won a $1.6bn order from International Airlines Group for Trent XWB engines, with long-term TotalCare service support, to power 18 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, we have signed multiple contracts to provide and service military transport engines for the US Air Force and US Marine Corp, and we have started construction of the state-of-the-art core manufacturing facility in Derby that will produce reactor cores for the UK's current and future submarines programme”.
