Nepal Airline is all geared up to acquire three new aircraft to ramp up its domestic operations, according to the Executive chairman of Nepal Airlines, Yuvraj Adhikari. Addressing a public event in Kathmandu, Adhikari also clarified that the airlines is in good financial shape and awaiting a ministry approval the airline would soon purchase three aircraft.
“The present Nepal Airlines leadership had a dual role - to speed up structural reform of the airline, including financial reform, while also fulfilling the airline's role as the national flag carrier,” Adhikari further added.
As per the January 2022, five-year plan the airline planned to acquire 32 aircraft, including 18 regional aircraft for domestic operations, with the aid of government funding. But instead of providing funds, the government initiated a series of reforms to turn-around the loss-making airline including leadership changes.
The new managerial appointment by mid-2022 brought about a wave of change in the airline operations from repaying the airline debt of $359.8 million to selling off the Chinese made turboprop aircraft.
