Nepal Airline repays loan of $2.5 million to Nepal Employee Provident Fund

Nepal Airlines recently repaid its loan of $2.5 million taken from the Nepal's Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the airline confirmed in a statement. The airline had taken the loan to buy an Airbus narrowbody.  The airline repaid the instalment comprising of capital and interest on the principal amount on January 13, 2023.

Nepal Airlines had taken a loan of $277.8 million for the purchase of two A330-200s and two A320-200s. With the added interest the total debt is $337.9 million.

The airline had made the previous instalments of $11.4 million in July 2022 and $5.5 million in October 2022.

So far Nepal Airlines has made regular instalments against the loan taken from EPF and Citizen Investment trust. However, the airline was unable to pay the amount in last two years due to pandemic-induced financial strain on the airline.
