National Airlines' cargo business National Air Cargo has signed a deal with Boeing for four 777-200 freighter aircraft at this year's Farnborough International Airshow.
The first two are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of this year and the remaining two are expected to be delivered in the first quarter next year. The aircraft was selected for its long distance.
The deal was signed by Boeing's commercial aircraft business CEO Stephanie Pope and National Air Cargo chairman Christopher Alf.
Alf described how the ecommerce sector was ""growing at a pace"". The airline also operates a fleet of 9 747-400 freighters. Alf clarified the order was for growth and not renewal. He also expressed interest in the 777X freighter aircraft.
When asked about how the aircraft will be financed, Alf said there has been interest shown from Bank of China (BOC) Aviation as well as ""some others"" but ""nothing is finalised as of yet"". He added: ""It's definitely not a problem for us. We've had many letters of intents (LoI). It's just a matter of picking the best one.""
