Munich Airport's 2022 passenger traffic hit "around 70% of pre-crisis level" as revenue doubled year-on-year to €1.2bn.
Profit was up by over €200 million, the airport reported, largely due to passenger numbers increasing by almost 20 million to 31.6 million.
Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) came to €288 million, an improvement of €258 million on 2021, with earnings after taxes (EAT) at minus 59 million, a €200 million improvement on 2021.
“We expect this encouraging trend to continue in the current year, too. In 2023 we anticipate another significant increase in our revenue, opening up the prospect for us to return to the black already in the fourth year after the start of the worst crisis in the history of aviation," said chief executive Jost Lammers.
"The positive traffic development was particularly attributable to connections to North America: Since July 2022, traffic between Munich and destinations in the US has even been higher than the pre-pandemic level," Lammers explained, saying the airport has "regained our position as a premium international hub".
