MTU Aero Engines leaves Dubai Airshow with more than $400 million in new orders

MTU Aero Engines closed the week on a high, announcing that it received more than $400 million in orders during the Dubai Airshow.

Emirates, which placed the largest single order, ordered 130 GE9X engines for its Boeing 777X aircraft.

MTU contributes the turbine centre frame to the GE9X and holds a 4% share in the programme.

In second place, Flydubai purchased 60 GEnx engines to power its Boeing 787-9 fleet.

MTU has a 6.5% stake in the GEnx and is also responsible for the turbine centre frame.

Independently of the Dubai Airshow, Saudia Airlines also committed to powering its latest order of 39 Dreamliners with GEnx engines.

“This success demonstrates that MTU has the right portfolio mix and is also excellently positioned in the widebody segment,” said Michael Schreyögg, chief programme officer at MTU Aero Engines.

“The GE9X for the Boeing 777X and the GEnx engine for the Dreamliner were particularly strong programmes in Dubai.”

There were also sales successes in Dubai in the narrowbody segment: Helvetic Airlines placed a firm order for three E195-E2s with Embraer and has options for five more.

The E195-E2 is powered exclusively by the PW1900G, in which MTU holds a 15% stake.

MTU develops and manufactures various high-pressure compressor stages, the high-speed low-pressure turbine, and brush seals for the engine.
