Mesa Air Group shareholders approve Republic Airways merger

Mesa Air Group's shareholders have approved the company's proposed merger with Republic Airways.

Around 99% of shareholders voted in favour of the merger.

“This vote confirms the strategic value of combining Mesa and Republic, and positions the combined company for enhanced scale and long-term stability,” said Mesa chairman and CEO Jonathan Ornstein.

The merger is expected to close later this week, with the US Department of Transport having already approved the combined operations.

The merged company will be named Republic Airways Holdings and will trade on the Nasdaq under ‘RJET’.

Republic shareholders are set to hold the majority of shares while Mesa shareholders will own 6% to 12%.

Mesa Airways primarily supports United Airlines' regional operations, while Republic Airways operates regional flights on behalf of United, as well as American and Delta. The combined company will see it continue to support these US carriers.
