Merpati Nusantart Airlines to turn a profit in 2012

Merpati Nusantara Airlines has stated that it can turn a profit this year by more than tripling the number of passengers it carries.

Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo, the airline’s president director, said the airline was aiming for an Rp 67 billion ($7.4 million) profit, with revenue to grow 200% to Rp 3.6 trillion. This is compared to a Rp 146 billion loss last year.

To meet its goals, Merpati will increase its fleet to 36 aircraft, from the current 25, with the addition of 11 new 737-400s.
