Melbourne Airport reports 80% pre-pandemic passenger recovery for November 2022

Passenger numbers at Melbourne Airport returned to 80% of pre-pandemic levels in November 2022, as demand for travel continues to grow, the airport said in a statement. The airport reported a total passenger footfall of 2,539,619 across its fur terminals in November 2022, including 647,368 international travelers.

The international figure is the highest recorded since the onset of Covid-19 and reflects increased capacity from carriers including United Airlines and Qatar Airways, as well as the return of Air Asia X.

Lorie Argus, Chief Executive Officer, Melbourne Airport, said: “We are continuously trying to improve the experience for passengers, with terminal upgrade work continuing through the summer. We have hundreds of new staff preparing to work their first Christmas holiday period at Melbourne Airport which is exciting, but at the same time we’d ask passengers to be patient as the team works to get everyone and their belongings safely where they need to be over the summer holiday period.”

The passenger traffic for November 2022, showed an increase of 461% as compered to November 2021 but is 16% down on the corresponding month in 2019.
