MAS unions criticized for blocking restructuring

Employees' unions in Malaysia Airlines are under fire for obstructing plans to restructure the airline with demands described as “unreasonable”.

Dr Tan Seng Giaw, MP and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairman, said: "If we have unions that don't understand the airline industry's situations today, MAS cannot survive.”

"As the unions have been long established, they have been making incredible demands. If they make too many demands, how can MAS survive?"

The MAS Employees Union of Peninsular Malaysia (Maseu) recently threatened strike action unless its demands were met for the removal of certain of the airline’s management executives.
